Look away now if you're lactose intolerant – Danish brand Castello have launched a whole emporium dedicated to cheese in Shoreditch.
‘Heaven is a Place on Earth' may have been released back in 1987, but I like to think they were actually singing prospectively about the Castello pop-up cheese emporium which recently opened.
Over 30 different cheese are available in the shop, including Pineapple Halo, Creamy Blue, Tickler Extra Mature Cheddar, Traditional Danish Blue, Aged Havarti, Marquis, and Creamy White with Truffle. Matching beverages, biscuits and chutneys are also on sale, along with a great range of cheese accessories like domes and knives.
Once you stop drooling, try one of the regular lunchtime tastings (only £5), participate in a Q&A session, or just prop up the bar on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening. You can even create a Christmas Hamper full of cheesy goodies for a friend (or, more likely, yourself) if you should so wish.
Following on from pop-ups in New York, the Hague and Copenhagen, the shop will be open for just 7 short weeks (until October 24
th). Go forth, and eat cheese.
