The immense Hakkasan empire brings incredible dim sum to the city with the launch of Yauatcha City!
The internationally acclaimed Hakkasan Group, who own the eponymously named chain of Chinese restaurants as well as the original Michelin Starred Yauatcha in Soho.
Yauatcha City's kitchen is led by Chef Tong Chee Hwee, who holds a total of 12 years' experience with the group, initially as Head Chef of the original Hakkasan Hanway Place and then bringing his skill and creativity to the group globally as Executive Head Chef.
The menu at Yauatcha City will embodies the Chinese dim sum teahouse concept, where friends and family gather to catch up over excellent dim sum and wok dishes. The menu provides traditional Cantonese dishes with a modern influence, offering a wide range of steamed, baked, grilled and fried dim sum such as Scallop shui mai, Prawn and beancurd cheung fun and Venison puffs.
The venue also houses a Patisserie, where Chinese heritage and modern European cooking techniques have inspired the pastry team, led by Executive Pastry Chef Graham Hornigold, to create an array of macarons, petits gateaux and chocolates.
As you would expect of an authentic dim sum restaurant, there is tea aplenty on the menu, with around 40 varieties to choose from. Cocktails take their inspiration from China too, with concoctions including…
With a choice of two bars, two spacious outside terraces and a large main dining area,
Yauatcha City is ideal for everything from a light lunch to larger feasts or simply a few drinks.
We visited and here's why you should go…/
The space itself if nothing short of spectacular. Located on the ENTIRE top floor of the Broadgate Circle building, dining here is akin to sitting in an amphitheatre as you watch the City Boys below you jostle for elbow room. The food is every bit as good as it's Soho sister restaurant, with delicacy of flavour and touch apparent throughout the dishes. Oh, and unusually for an Asian restaurant, desserts are incredible too, with an array of seriously indulgent patisserie to choose from.
The only minor let down are the cocktails, which lacked any real excitement or sparkle in their flavour. On the flipside, get yourself stuck into the extensive Sake list and all will be forgiven!
