Roofnic, Oxford Street

Roofnic, London's newest rooftop bar has popped up on the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, just in time for summer!

Ascending four flights of a blackboard-scrawled stairwell after finding the secret grassy entrance at the Marble Arch end of Oxford certainly works up a thirst. For a quick lunchtime ale or an early evening post-work refreshing cocktail in the long-awaited London summer sun, Roofnic is an English summer caravan holiday - hoping for sun, but ready for all weathers. With rustic wooden benches, bright retro furnishing and cushioned communal seating, it feels temporary yet contemporary. Bundles of herbs (ripe for cocktail garnishing), dangling coloured bulbs, the bar seemingly made from a caravan kitchen sink, and a just-in-case-it-rains marquee, you can revisit your childhood holidays of camping in Somerset. A range of gin cocktails, or GinJars, mixed and served in jam jars, are on offer; the GT Al Fresco, Lady Garden (gin, botanicals, strawberry, ginger), Pine Snapple and the Roofnic Swizzel (42 Below, passion fruit, honey, lime). Jam jars stored in the art-deco cupboards, then mixed and muddled before your eyes, ice from the sink, and served with stalks of fresh sage, rosemary, thyme or mint. Wine, Prosecco and Camden ale is also available for the less frisky. Create your own picnic with a choice of small plates, butternut squash with scorched sunflowers seeds, quinoa salad and pomegranate, or pulled pork soft tacos. More filling choices are the hot sliders or the soft steamed buns. Or of course the Manwich: any filling in a triple toasted stack. Escape the crowds of shoppers and soak up the sun against a backdrop of city rooftops, and enjoy your very own Lady Garden. 535 Oxford Street, London W1C 2QW www.roofnic.com @Roofnic
