Occupying a Dickensian fronted pub in Shoreditch is Bull in a China Shop, a new all-day restaurant and whisky bar with an intriguing hint of the Orient.
Bull in a China Shop is the second project from brothers Stephen and Simon Chan, owners of the ever-popular The Drunken Monkey.
Open from breakfast to dinner, visitors can expect a menu of Chinese spiced, whisky glazed rotisserie chicken, black charcoal brioche buns, superfood salads and a host of breakfast bao buns, smoothies and sweet and savoury congee for early risers.
The drinks list takes a similar approach with a Japanese whiskies and Orient-inspired cocktails sitting alongside traditional favourites.
The design concept more than matches the interesting menus. Created by Sara Lewin (of Cereal Killer Café fame) , the décor is very much ‘old curiosities' with a hint of Tretchikoffs ‘Green Lady' played out with a collection of medicine bottles, and bone china ornaments to a backdrop of textured whitewashed walls. Adding to the drama of the venue is the an eye-catching mural of a series of ghostly male figures by acclaimed Spanish street artist Borondo.
