Ma'Plucker, Soho

Chicken and waffles? You're kidding right? If you are a non-believer, head down to Ma'Plucker and see if she can convert you too!

ma'plucker Who…/ Sexy Sylvia, queen of the mother hens and ruler of the Ma' Plucker roost has arrived in Soho to bring us Ma' Plucker, serving Southern fried chicken three ways – fried, rotisserie and pulled alongside some fabulous American diner style sundaes and homemade fruit pies. Menu…/ Guests must choose from a #3waychicken menu opting for a base of either a salad, bun or maple waffle (go with the waffle every time!) Then comes the sauce, with options including chicken skin gravy or chipotle chilli sauce. Finally, it's time to choose your chicken, should you go for chilli rubbed and roasted rotisserie, crispy coated buttermilk chicken or slow, spicy pulled chicken...why not try all three! For veggies...or cheese lovers, there is also a crispy coated halloumi option as well as a short rib sub and a number of Southern side orders such as pickles, Ma's slaw, fries and ‘Crack and Cheese' – deep fried mac and cheese, which is slightly disappointing on arrival if you love a good gooey pasta concoction. The cherry pie, however is to die for, so make sure you don't fill up on chicken. If that doesn't tempt your taste buds, you can always go for the home-made sweet n salty popcorn or cornflake and caramel sundae. Screen Shot 2015-07-18 at 18.27.14 Drinks…/ Being based in Soho, cocktails are compulsory, and Ma'Plucker does not disappoint with her frozen Margaritas and boozy iced tea. We've also been told that there will soon be a boozy afternoon tea with mini burgers and sweet treats on offer, so watch this space! The Vibe…/ This is a step or three above KFC in the decor stakes with canteen style seating and a cute wire chicken nestled on every table, loving holding the condiments. The venue is small, yet cosy with chicken coops on the wall housing containers for those all important take aways. The best thing, apart from the chicken, is the side serving of R&B music in the background, taking you back to your youth, just like listening to Kisstory!   We visited and here's why you should go…/ A hefty portion of soul and sumptuous sauces, gives Ma'Plucker the edge over other chicken shops. I'm not usually a fan of eating chicken when I dine out, as it takes a lot of jazzing up to be tasty, but Ma'Plucker managed to tickle my tastebuds more than once, from the tender pulled chicken to the mind-blowing combination of southern fried chicken and waffles covered in a chilli maple glaze! I'll be going back to work my way through the #3waychicken menu, and so should you.  As far as I can see, there is no wrong flavour combination, you are always a winner!
