Talli Joe FoodWhat…/ Inspired by dive bars in India, Talli Joe has launched with the somewhat exciting promise of ‘Indian half plates and full drinks'! Tell me more…/ Named after the concept of ‘Talli', a Hindi adjective implying a happy state of intoxication, Talli Joe brings a fun new twist to London's Indian restaurant scene. The food credentials are seriously strong too, with a menu put together by Executive Chef Sameer Taneja, formerly of the Michelin-starred Benares. On the menu…/ The menu takes a contemporary twist on dishes found in regional Indian drinking holes, albeit here you'll find the food served alongside a selection of inspired cocktails instead of local moonshine. However, where the phrase ‘contemporary twist' normally implies flavours being diluted, in this case you can take it to mean clever, punchy and seriously delicious. Highlights are endless, but include Rasam Poached Shrimp - fresh shrimp poached in a spicy South Indian tomato broth, tempered with curry leaves, garlic and coriander; Sorpotel & Sanna, a traditional Goan vindaloo inspired dish of pork and offal stewed in chilli, coconut and vinegar; Kochi beef pepper fry; and Kale chaat. Cocktails are worthy of note too, including a super-rich Mojito made with Bengali limes and jaggery syrup; and the Talli Ho, a clever mix of whisky, beer syrup, orange bitters, lime and soda. Talli Joe InteriorThe venue…/ Dark wooden furniture is brightened up with street-art style splashes of colour, whilst a mix of individual and communal tables ensures a lively and informal atmosphere. We went and here's why you should go…/ London's small but growing collection of real Indian restaurants has a worthy new member with Talli Joe.  Expect beautifully spiced dishes, a clever collection of cocktails and great value  - what's not to love? How much…/ Eat heartily for around £25/head and cocktails are around £8.50. Where…/ 152-154 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8HL www.tallijoe.com
