El Patron, Putney - New Opening

“Tequilla, it makes me happy,” yes that may be a line from a Terrovision song, but it's also so very true, as I found out whilst drinking numerous cocktails at El Patron, a cheeky late night Mexican bar serving over 60 different tequilas.

I had a horrendous experience with some cheap tequila years ago and have been skeptical about the stuff ever since, but the talented team at El Patron have changed my mind with their extensive range of Mexican-inspired cocktails, using top notch tequilas like the house pour AquaRiva. A must try cocktail is Escobar's Secret, a concoction of Mezcal, Crème de Mure, Vanilla Syrup, Lime, Apple and Ginger Ale that tantalises the taste buds. El Patron, Putney - New Opening All that alcohol can be soaked up with some simple but delicious Mexican street food such as burritos and quesadillas. If you are just after a snack, try the tortilla chips and opt for El Patron's Secret Guacamole, which packs a punch. Located on the Upper Richmond Road, this late night bar celebrates Latin culture in a tongue in cheek manner. Reclaimed brickwork and brightly coloured wooden shutters line the walls, alongside a striking Mexican style skull mural. Downstairs lies the second bar with a warm wooden interior. It's the place to be on Friday evenings where live music will keep you singing and dancing until dawn. Perfect for parties, this place even gives you a party box filled with sombreros and and moustaches to enjoy alongside a photobooth to capture all the tequila-fuelled antics.
