Boisdale pushes US Embassy to overturn ban on Haggis!

Never one to shy away from an injustice against Scotland, Boisdale owner Ranald Macdonald chose his annual Burns Night dinner to launch a campaign to overturn the outrageous US ban on haggis. The ban has been in place since 1971 as a result of the classification of some of the ingredients in the mighty Scottish sausage and denies some 8% of the US population (27 million people) from celebrating Burns Night in traditional fashion. Lord McColl of Dulwich raised the issue in the House of Lords on Thursday 15th January, questioning the US haggis ban, and suggesting that the wholesome and nutritious haggis might help alleviate the US obesity crisis! In his attempt to prove to our American cousins how delicious Haggis is, Ranald invited Stan Phillips, Counselor for Agricultural Affairs at the US Embassy in London, for a traditional Burns dinner.   The Love Food Love Drink crew were also on hand to witness this historic occasion and needless to say, Boisdale certainly made a convincing argument on the merits of lifting the ban on the delicious delicacy!
